Stir Box

“Caramel Macchiato, please”

Naks sarap pakinggan di ba, very high class. Ang pakiramdam na “I can afford” at “I’m not just an ordinary person.”

Kung sa America halos lahat may kayang bumili dito (it may be expensive in the US too but at least they can afford it), dito sa atin ay iilan lang.  Bininigyan ka nito ng sense of belongingness to the sosyalera class.

. . viola. Here are some visible manifestations ng Starbucks craze sa kabataan,

I’m on a diet.” Kahit nangangayayat na yan at mukhang may anorexia.
6.       Mejo pasigaw ang pag-order. This was on purpose para marinig ng lahat na umorder ka ng kape in Starbucks which is di  di naman talaga kailangan dahil obviously nasa loob ka naman ng Starbucks.
7.       Siyempre yung pangalan.
9.       She would invite the person she know to come inside pero alam niya na hindi ito makakapasok dahil walang pambili ng mahal na kape. She would feel very special dahil kasali siya sa ilang tao na makakabili.

Wala namang masama dito, the Starbucks craze is happening since they had come here. Karapatan ng bawat isa sa atin gastusin ang pera natin whichever way we want and feel the satisfaction in doing so. This post was not meant to humiliate but just made to point out one of the Filipino ways. At kahit naman ako magpapapicture naman talaga sa Starbucks with the coffee. Hahahahahaha.

Welcome To College, Kid

College life.

.   .  . nung first year ka, hindi lahat ng sumisipot sa klase at umupo sa teachers table ay mga prof o instructor mo.

.   .  .  you must turn-off your cellphone before bago mag-exam kung ayaw mong  i-crumple ng prof mo yung test paper mo.
.   .  .  ayus palang magreport ng lasing.
.   .  . ayus din magtake ng exam paglasing.
.   .  .  masarap ang redhorse.
.   .  . deads ka sa una mong hang-over. May bonus pang allergy.
.   .  . makikilala mo ang tunay mong barkada.
.   .  . may makakasilamuha ka hirap at saya.

Bawat bata, kahit sino may karapatang makapag-aral.

Nasaan na ang unibersidad  na ginawa ayon sa Konstitusyon, to guarantees the right of every Filipino youth to quality and affordable education?

Everyone has the right to education. Everyone has the right to feel the life of being a college student.

 EDUCATION IS NOT A PRIVILEGE.

May you rest in peace.

I love Philippines?

MY SHORT ESSAY ABOUT THE PHILIPPINES by Jaeyoun Kim

Filipinos always complain about the corruption in the Philippines . Do you really think the corruption is the problem of the Philippines ? I do not think so. I strongly believe that the problem is the lack of love for the Philippines.

Let me first talk about my country, Korea . It might help you understand my point. After the Korean War, South Korea was one of the poorest countries in the world. Koreans had to start from scratch because entire country was destroyed after the Korean War, and we had no natural resources.

Koreans used to talk about the Philippines , for Filipinos were very rich in Asia . We envy Filipinos. Koreans really wanted to be well off like Filipinos. Many Koreans died of famine. Korean government was very corrupt and is still very corrupt beyond your imagination, but Korea was able to develop dramatically because Koreans really did their best for the common good with their heart burning with patriotism…

Koreans did not work just for themselves but also for their neighborhood and country. Education inspired young men with the spirit of patriotism.

40 years ago, President Park took over the government to reform Korea . He tried to borrow money from other countries, but it was not possible to get a loan and attract a foreign investment because the economic situation of South Korea was so bad. Korea had only three factories. So, President Park sent many mine workers and nurses to Germany so that they could send money to Korea to build a factory. They had to go through horrible experience.

In 1964, President Park visited Germany to borrow money. Hundred of Koreans in Germany came to the airport to welcome him and cried there as they saw the President Park . They asked to him, “President, when can we be well off?” That was the only question everyone asked to him. President Park cried with them and promised them that Korea would be well off if everyone works hard for Korea , and the President of Germany got the strong impression on them and lent money to Korea . So, President Park was able to build many factories in Korea . He always asked Koreans to love their country from their heart.

Many Korean scientists and engineers in the USA came back to Korea to help developing country because they wanted their country to be well off. Though they received very small salary, they did their best for Korea . They always hoped that their children would live in well off country.

My parents always brought me to the places where poor and physically handicapped people live. They wanted me to understand their life and help them. I also worked for Catholic Church when I was in the army. The only thing I learned from Catholic Church was that we have to love our neighborhood. And, I have loved my neighborhood.

Have you cried for the Philippines ? I have cried for my country several times. I also cried for the Philippines because of so many poor people.. I have been to the New Bilibid prison. What made me sad in the prison were the prisoners who do not have any love for their country. They go to mass and work for Church. They pray everyday. However, they do not love the Philippines . I talked to two prisoners at the maximum-security compound, and both of them said that they would leave the Philippines right after they are released from the prison. They said that they would start a new life in other countries and never come back to the Philippines.

Many Koreans have a great love for Korea so that we were able to share our wealth with our neighborhood. The owners of factory and company were distributed their profit to their employees fairly so that employees could buy what they needed and saved money for the future and their children.

When I was in Korea , I had a very strong faith and wanted to be a priest. However, when I came to the Philippines , I completely lost my faith. I was very confused when I saw many unbelievable situations in the Philippines. Street kids always make me sad, and I see them everyday. The Philippines is the only Catholic country in Asia , but there are too many poor people here. People go to church every Sunday to pray, but nothing has been changed.

My parents came to the Philippines last week and saw this situation. They told me that Korea was much poorer than the present Philippines when they were young. They are so sorry that there are so many beggars and street kids. When we went to Pasangjan, I forced my parents to take a boat because it would fun.. However, they were not happy after taking a boat. They said that they would not take the boat again because they were sympathized the boatmen, for the boatmen were very poor and had a small frame.. Most of people just took a boat and enjoyed it. But, my parents did not enjoy it because of love for them.

My mother who has been working for Catholic Church since I was very young told me that if we just go to mass without changing ourselves, we are not Catholic indeed. Faith should come with action. She added that I have to love Filipinos and do good things for them because all of us are same and have received a great love from God. I want Filipinos to love their neighborhood and country as much as they love God so that the Philippines will be well off.. I am sure that love is the keyword, which Filipinos should remember. We cannot change the sinful structure at once. It should start from person. Love must start in everybody, in a small scale and have to grow. A lot of things happen if we open up to love.

Let’s put away our prejudices and look at our worries with our new eyes. I discover that every person is worthy to be loved. Trust in love, because it makes changes possible. Love changes you and me. It changes people, contexts and relationships. It changes the world. Please love your neighborhood and country. Jesus Christ said that whatever we do to others we do to Him. In the Philippines , there is God for people who are abused and abandoned. There is God who is crying for love. If you have a child, teach them how to love the Philippines . Teach them why they have to love their neighborhood and country. You already know that God also will be very happy if you love others.

That’s all I really want to ask you Filipinos.

I sincerely hope that this essay inspire us all and show LOVE for our homeland.

Husga

A thing you have done might be the one that defines you for the rest of your life.

How I Met. . . . .

Sometimes you are fated to meet. Sometimes it’s destiny. Sometimes you believe that the right one will come. But you know kids, most often times its not how you met. It’s not about if she is Miss Right or the perfect one.  Destiny may fate you to meet. But it doesn’t end there. It’s still a long way road ahead. It’s about you making her the one. It’s about the both of you making each other the destiny.   This is the story of how I met her. How through time I’ve fallen for her deeply. How the destiny thing does not guarantee being together. How things became complicated. How we went on our separate ways. How we ended up meeting each other again. Kids, this is the story of how I met her again and became your mother.

She was a very cute kid. I was in second grade and I know it’s but at that time I had a crush on her. I don’t know what is it but I was attracted to her.  Of course I can’t really understand what was happening at that time. I just understand one thing and it’s I like her. As we grow older, she grew more beautiful. I know your mother only brushes me off when I call her beautiful but it was the truth. She really was and always is.

I was very shy at that time. Very timid. I would suddenly become a big red balloon when I see her or if our classmates tease me about her.  Even when your mother looks and smiles at me I tend to look away. When we were about to cross path, I look for another way. Yeah, let’s say I was very gay at that time. Your mother always laughs when she remembers about it.

You see kids, even if you are fated and you like each other but you won’t do anything about it. That would be useless and would only lead to nothing. Fate is only fifty-percent, the other half is yours. That’s what happened to us. My shyness always overcomes me when it comes to her. I proposed to her in third year with a very cheesy letter. Asking her if she could be my girlfriend (yeah you’re dad was very baduy), sadly she turned me down. But it was for the best. I was being pressured by my peers and everybody else for us to be with each other. She told me to come back to her when I’m ready. She must have thought it won’t be long before I would be ready again. We didn’t know it take more years to come.

Things had been good. We were recognizing each others feeling at some point. However a time came when she has to go. She got this scholarship to go abroad. On the night before she go, she asked me to wait for her. I said yes. I promised her many things. I broke it all. That is when our destiny started to crumble. Your dad made two biggest mistakes with your mom. And that was breaking her heart twice. I never really knew the reason why I didn’t wait or contacted her. I guess the thing when she turned me down really had hit me or other things in mind. But all along I have no real reason to break my promises with her, but I did. It was highschool, kids do the most stupid mistakes and hurt the persons most important to them.

When she came back I was with someone. We decided to be friends and that. She accepted the fact that I was with someone and in a point moved on. Your mother also dated with someone and falls in love.  We remained as casual friends. We both thought that it would be the end of our story. But it wasn’t, we somehow ended up in the same place and became friends, much closer than we ever was since when we were in second grade. We discovered we have a lot in common and laugh at silly jokes. She would join me sometime in playing computer games and even tried dota, laughing at how the panda’s walk. But things were complicated at that time. Kids, there are stories that aren’t supposed to be told and this one of it.  In the end, it was a short lived relationship. She decided it wasn’t right. It was the time for us to walk in separate ways. I agreed. We both cut our ties with each other. Walk in the opposite directions, never to look back. It was for the best. I really thought it was the end of us. But a funny thing kids, how that fifty percent of the faith works, because when you thought it was over, it is the time when the wheels starts to turn.

You may say that once in your life you would start to walk away to another direction opposite to someone’s and never to see each other again. Well the funny thing is, the word is round, the farther you walk away with each other, the closer you really are. That’s what happened with me and your mother. We forgot that the world was round. We thought it was flat. We were living our separate ways, going on and living okay without each other. But when we bumped in again with each other, that illusion of being alone was shattered. I really don’t know what it is with your mother but she had this thing that makes me fall for her over and over again. It could be her smile. The way she laughs.  The way her eyes twinkle when she talks at me. The way she argues with me. The way she would wittingly counters me. Looking at her, it’s just so perfect. Everything about her is wonderful. And before I know it, there I was again the second grade boy who was for the first time again looking at the person he likes the most. And for the first time in years your mother smiled at me. The sweet smile, she always has since then. And that’s how I met your mother.

PS:  From then on, things had been good for us. I have been with your mother with one wonderful year. Happy as ever. I love you babe.

TERMITES

Ayus na, all in days work. Nag-uusap sila and  watdapak, english speaking. Oo anay as in termites. TERM mites!!!

Hehehehehe. PISLABRAKENROL!

Girl 1 (naka-eyeglasses, tipong socialistang nerd, air of maraming alam): Yes, the recognition of the theoretically incorrect propositions that the expert had supposed to us was rubbish in a sense blah bla blah blahh blahhh.

Boy(gay voice, has also te air of know-it-all): Yes you are, the adjustment of emancipation of everything that connects to the global ek eke ekekekekek.

Girl 2(the passive one): Yes yes. So the point is. . . . .

Beware of this kind. Well, let’s not think about it.

2. TERMITE NUMBER TWO, eto yung hardcore kasama ni termite number one. Dakilang user then ito ng word na “uhhhmm” at “you know”.

For example: Having uhhhm completed the ridiculous and ambivalent uhhhm you know   research uhhhmmm that’s why uhhh you know, however uhhh……

Puedeng maging ikaw at ako.

“your point is. . . .” ,“So I see, then. . . . “, “Ahhh so technically”, “Really so you’re saying. . . .”,

I-apply natin to sa usapan:

Masakit man isipin pero totoo.

I know life is unfair.

Ever.

Kaya brader, huwag ka ng umasa. Mahirap lumaban pag may crush ng iba yung crush mo. Pero wag kang mag-alala. After some years, o sa pagcollege niyo, mejo nag-iiba naman pananaw ng mga babae. Tapos baka tubuan ka na ng bigote. It takes time naman daw.

2. You’re not attractive in her eyes. Sorry dude, you can change your clothes but you can never change that face.

3. Di ka naliligo. Dude, ito may pag-asa pa. Maligo ka lang, pramis.

4. Na-friend zoned ka. Oh yesss. That evil word. Oo pare, kung akala mong ang pakikipagkaibigan at pagiging close sa crush mo ay isang paraan upang mapalapit at eventually magkaroon kayo ng mutual understanding and all that crap that you call love. Ohhh yess that kilabot word.

Boom. Biglang gumuho ang lahat. “Sorry but I love you as a friend lang.” Oo i hear you dude. Forever the friend but never the lover.

5. Iba ang hinahanap niya.  Iba to sa mga nauna. Dahil ang gusto niya ay kalahi niya. Oo, tibo yung crush mo. Pak!!!
